The band was created during end of May 2009 by guitarists Mathieu D and Mathieu C. They decided to find one bassist and drummer amongst their friends and they found respectively Stephen and David. During the first rehearsal, they played some famous songs and some improvisations until get bored not to have a singer. Then, they started to look for a singer by putting up posters in music shops. Thereafter they had a few phone calls and kept Steven who fitted basic expectations.

After the first rehearsal in early June 2009, the first line-up was set. They searched for a name, and agreed on a name that sounded good, without special meaning, and decided unanimously Holy Wankers. They quickly constructed a set list of covers and compositions, the aim being to have 50/50. But the element that brought a real motivation was the announcement that a concert would be held July 4th opening for their friends Disobediant. After a concert rather positive but far from perfect, they continued to work on their compositions and their set list in order to be on top for their next concert which took place on August 7th in Soustons. It was one of their best experiences they played in front of more than 200 people in the central square and had the opportunity to make contact with a local group that would later become their friend, the Black Berreta and also took encouragement from a concert organizer who invited them to do a local tour in 2010 summer.

Unfortunately, history will not go so far as a few other gigs later, the atmosphere in the group began to deteriorate because of tensions about compositions. First, the musical direction of the group were frequently discussed and secondly, compositions were struggling to find a solid structure (lack of lyrics, etc). Mathieu then decided to quit the band what led to band split. However, both of guitarists kept on playing together to have fun and thought about a likely band reunion, in a different line-up for the summer of 2011 when Mat will complete his studies in Scotland.
